Sanders Call For Clinton Support With Cheers And Jeers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS SF) – In what might be a preview of a raucous roll call at the Democratic National Convention, Sen. Bernie Sanders drew cheers and jeers from California delegates as he asked them to support Hillary Clinton at a Tuesday morning breakfast.

Sanders won 221 delegates in the California June primary to Clinton's 254.

The nearly evenly split delegation has had rowdy outbursts by the Sanders supports at both the breakfast meeting held in Philadelphia so far this week.

On Monday, Sanders delegates shouted down speakers at the breakfast.

On Tuesday, Sanders addressed the gathering in person. Near the end of talk, Sanders told the crowd there is one goal this fall.

"Elections come and go," he told the delegation. "In my view, our immediate task to what we must do or forever look back in regret is to defeat Donald Trump and elect Hillary Clinton."

The call for unity behind Clinton drew cheers and loud jeers.

"It is easy to boo," he told his California supporters. "But it is harder to look your kids in the face who would be living under a Donald Trump presidency."
