SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) — The driver of a tanker truck died when his truck carrying used motor oil crashed and caught fire Wednesday morning on a San Leandro off-ramp from northbound Interstate Highway 880, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash of the three-axle truck was first reported at 3:59 a.m. and trapped the driver inside, where he died instantly, according to the CHP.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, Officer Kevin Bartlett said.

The Highway 880 Davis Street on- and off-ramps were still closed late Wednesday morning but all lanes of the highway have reopened.

The identity of the driver has not yet been released.
