Unusual Lights Reported In The Night Sky Over California, Nevada And Utah

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- People have been reporting unusual lights in the sky above Fremont, Bay Point, Vallejo, all over the Bay Area. People in Utah and Las Vegas have also reported the lights.

NASA says the lights came from space junk.

Several people posted video on Twitter of the lights.

A scientist from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics said on Twitter he believes the fragments are from a Chinese rocket that originally blasted off in late June.

They apparently broke into two distinct parts in the sky over the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

So these lights have man-made origins, rather than being from asteroids or meteors.
