KPIX 5 Says Farewell To Veteran Reporter Mike Sugerman

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- It was bittersweet night for the staff at KPIX Thursday evening as the one and only Mike Sugerman prepared to leave the Bay Area after 37 years on radio and television.

He brought his unique perspective to KPIX 5 in 2003 after two decades at KCBS Radio, where he still reports on a weekly basis.

Sugerman is one of the most respected reporters working in San Francisco and he has the hardware to prove it. He has won eight individual National Edward R. Murrow Awards during his career, a number that rivals that of any local news reporter in the country.

Sugerman among the most honored broadcast journalists in California with a total of 14 Emmys, including six Best Writing awards, and more than 100 other national, state, regional, and local awards.

A great storyteller who excelled whether he was working on hard news, a human interest story or one of his signature pieces that showcased his irreverent sense of humor, Sugerman's versatile gifts as a journalist will be missed in this newsroom.

While no single story can do the man justice, KPIX 5 editors and co-workers took the time to put together an affectionate look back at Mike Sugerman's career in San Francisco.
