Bay Area Woman Fatally Shot In Texas Was Visiting Fiancée's Family
AUSTIN (CBS) -- Police in Austin, Texas, said the Bay Area woman who was shot and killed in a popular downtown district over the weekend was likely not the intended target.
30-year-old Teqnika Moultrie of San Carlos had been visiting her fiancée's family and was known as the life of the party.
Her brother Ricky Moultrie said the last words she said to him him were, "Brother, I love you".
Moultrie was out in downtown Austin celebrating a happy time in her life.
She was engaged to Sabrina Rudd, whose family lives in Austin. The couple was scheduled to get married next month.
"You just never think that something like this is gonna happen. She went to have fun, spend time with her fiancée's family and just enjoy being young and vibrant," said Ricky.
Ricky Moultrie lives in Las Vegas and spoke to KPIX 5 via Google Hangout. He said his sister was standing on 6th Street when the shooting happened.
"Shots rang out. It was three to four shots," he said.
The shooting killed Teqnika and seriously injured four others.
"This is something that we are having to deal with every single day turn the new on and it's another killing, another killing, another killing," said Moultrie. "Something's gotta stop. When you see those type of things your heart goes out to the families but you never think that it's going to touch so close to home."
Police told CBS Austin station KEYE that they believe the intended target of the shooting was another man whose whereabouts are unknown.
This is the latest in a string of several shootings in that area lately.
Austin police have issued a murder warrant for 24-year-old Endicott McCray. His bail has been set at $2 million.
He's set to appear in court on separate charges for marijuana possession next month.
