Millennial Voters Like Trump Less Than Lord Voldemort - But They Don't Like Hillary Either

KCBS_740 SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Hillary Clinton has 100 days to build a winning coalition to defeat Donald Trump for the presidency.

One of her biggest challenges will be millennial voters.

Younger voters are more naturally skeptical and pessimistic, though intensely interested in politics, says Lauren Rickleen, author and expert on millennial attitudes. She says they are driven by economic concerns, especially about growing inequality, which is why so many responded to Bernie Sanders.

"The one thing I hear from young people over and over again is their fear that if they don't start building up a retirement when they're young, there will be no safety net available for them, and that's terrifying," Rickleen said.

A survey of swing state Millennials found they detest Donald Trump, liking him even less than they like Lord Voldemort - remember, this is the Harry Potter generation.

But, they don't like Hillary Clinton either.

30-percent say they'll either vote third party, or not at all. Ben Becker of San Francisco is a 26-year-old Bernie Sanders delegate. He told KCBS there is nothing Clinton can do to woo most of his contemporaries.

"They don't like Hillary - period. It doesn't matter what she does, they don't like her, you know? So, they're not gonna vote for her in the end. They're not gonna get excited and get their friends to go out and vote the way we have been doing. We're gonna have a really low turnout this year, and Trump is gonna win," Becker said.
