Apple Picking: Burglars Steal Laptops From Company's Cupertino Offices

CUPERTINO (KPIX 5) – Two suspects remained on the loose Wednesday afternoon following an early morning burglary at an Apple building in Cupertino. Meanwhile, a third suspect has been arrested.

The Santa Clara County sheriff's office told KPIX 5 that three people were spotted breaking into the building on Bubb Road and Results Way, about two miles from company headquarters.

Authorities said the suspects were able to get away with stolen laptops, but an alert security guard was able to give a good description of the suspects' car to police.

"Our diligent deputies located that vehicle on Highway 85," said Sgt. James Jensen of the sheriff's office.

Police chased the suspects to a neighborhood near Camden Avenue and Lancaster Drive in San Jose, when the car became disabled.

Authorities said the three suspects ran from the scene on foot. One of the suspects was found in the Starbucks off Camden and Ross.

Starbucks employee Stacy Schildhauer said the suspect tried to run into the restroom, but had nowhere to run because he did not have the code.

"Not even two minutes later, half a dozen cops and a K-9 unit rushed him and tackled to the ground," Schildhauer told KPIX 5.

Deputies searched for the other two suspects in the neighborhood for hours.

"They came from house to house to house with the dog and then they went from this block to that block," said Kathleen Wollbrinck, who woke up to the sound of deputies searching for the suspected burglars.

Deputies ended the neighborhood search late Wednesday morning without any arrests. Authorities have not released details about the two suspects who fled.
