'Veto Gunmageddon' Group Looks To Overturn Gun Control Laws Signed By Jerry Brown

KCBS_740SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- California gun owners are trying to put several initiatives on the ballot to overturn strict gun control laws signed by Governor Jerry Brown last month.

The group 'Veto Gunmageddon' needs to collect 360,000 signatures for each measure by the end of the month to get them before voters in November.

Governor Jerry Brown says they were meant to enhance public safety while protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

"Anyone who knows anything about firearms looks at these laws, and is just like, 'what is this stuff?' It's just mania," Barry Brahami, a member of Veto Gunmaggedon told KCBS.

Brahami says one bill to outlaw magazine release buttons would actually hurt safety. He knows they don't have much time to collect the signatures but he is optimistic.

"Don't forget there's 13-million gun owners in this state, and the power of social media is pretty good," Brahami said.

The group is also tapping gun retailers and range owners in the effort.

"What we're doing is we've pretty much signed up every gun store and range in the state – most of them, and for them to reach out to their customers, it's not really a big deal," Brahami said.
