Ashley Judd Enrolls In PhD Program At UC Berkeley

BERKELEY (CBS SF) – When the students return to the Cal campus on August 24th there be a famous face among the new enrollees.

Actress Ashley Judd has announced on a Facebook Live post that she will be attending UC-Berkeley beginning with the fall semester to pursue a PhD degree at the prestigious Goldman School of Public Policy.

"I have decided to take the next step in my academic journey," she told fans on Facebook and also gathered at the Frothy Monkey in downtown Franklin, Tenn. "I am now officially a doctoral student at the University of California in Berkeley."

Judd delayed her college education to develop her film career, but did eventually return to the University of Kentucky to earn her bachelor's degree. She has since earned a mid-career Master of Public Administration degree from Harvard.

Like most incoming students, Judd admits to some jitters.

"Sometimes I'm really excited," she said on Facebook. "Sometimes I'm like 'What have I gotten myself into?!'"

Judd's interest in public policy is deep rooted. She recently was appointed an United Nations Population Fund Goodwill Ambassador.
