Wild, Early Morning Chase, Crash Involving Stolen Cars From Fremont Auto Dealer

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- Police were searching for a suspect involved in a chase and crash involving 2 cars stolen from a Fremont auto dealer early Monday morning.

Police said around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night the suspects broke into the Los Gallos de Los Carros auto dealership located in the 4300 block of Peralta Blvd., and stole all the car keys, plus a car.

Around 2 a.m. a security guard at the used car lot called police and said he was following not one, but 2 cars that had been stolen from the dealer.

One of the stolen cars crashed on Interstate 880 at Thornton, just before Decoto while the other kept driving. The driver was able to escape.

The second car crashed at Interstate 880 and Tennyson. That suspect, an adult male, was taken into custody.

"The vehicle that rolled over... they were unable to get the party out of it," said Hayward CHP Sgt. Brian Samms. "They didn't seem to be in distress, but due to the damage, Fremont Fire Department did a good job cutting the roof off the vehicle to get the party out."

Samms said at no time were any police cars involved in the chase.

Three other vehicles were involved in the crashes and the drivers suffered minor injuries.

Police were still searching for the driver of the first car.
