Convicted San Jose Sex Offender Wanted In Attempted Kidnappings Arrested

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A convicted sex offender and kidnapping suspect sought by police in San Jose was arrested Tuesday morning, police said.

David Lee Russell, 56, was arrested in the area of Oakland Rd. and Charles Ave. in San Jose's Berryessa neighborhood just after 9:30 a.m., according to San Jose Police.

Russell was wanted on attempted kidnapping charges and also had a warrant out for DUI.

Police said Russell assaulted and attempted to kidnap a young female victim near the intersection of Meridian and Hamilton avenues on August 29th.  Three days later, police said Russell assaulted another female victim near the intersection of Hillsdale and Narvaez avenues.

Police said the department received a number of tips from the community which resulted in Russell's arrest.

Russell was to be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on two counts of attempted kidnapping, two counts of attempted kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, and two counts of assault with intent to commit a felony.
