Nirvana's 'Nevermind' Baby Recreates Cover Photo

By Hayden Wright

(RADIO.COM) – A quarter century has passed since Nirvana's paradigm-shifting Nevermind foisted its unforgettable cover art upon the world: a naked baby in a swimming pool, reaching for an almighty dollar. Twenty-five years later, that very baby (now 25, himself) recreated the iconic image, but this time kept his modesty intact. Spencer Elden said he wanted to go naked once again, but the 2016 photographer felt it would be "weird," reports the The New York Post.

"The anniversary means something to me," Elden says. "It's strange that I did this for five minutes when I was four months old and it became this really iconic image," he told the paper. "It's cool, but weird to be part of something so important that I don't even remember."

In 1991, photographer Kirk Weddle approached Elden's parents with the concept and paid them $200 for the brief shoot. At the time, no one had heard of Nirvana or could have predicted what a cultural touchstone the image would become.
