Bill Murray Makes Surprise Appearance At White House

By Rebecca Shabad

(CBS NEWS) – Actor and comedian Bill Murray on Friday made a surprise appearance at the White House decked out in a Chicago Cubs sweatshirt and hat.

He came out to the podium in the White House briefing room and talked about the Cubs-Dodgers Championship series after spokesman Josh Earnest wrapped up his daily briefing with reporters. He told them that the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw may be a "great, great pitcher," but "we've got too many sticks" -- that is, great hitters on the Cubs, according to NBC News.

President Obama briefly met with Murray Friday, a White House official said, to congratulate him on being the 2016 recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Mr. Obama has met with past winners, too, including Eddie Murphy.

A number of reporters happened to catch Murray's visit to the briefing room and shared it on Twitter.

The Chicago Cubs are one game away from winning the National League Series and advancing to the World Series -- their first since 1945.
