Michelin Awards San Francisco's 'Quince' Much-Coveted 3 Stars

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Move over Benu and Saison, there's another San Francisco restaurant at the top of Michelin's coveted 3-star roster.

Quince, located in Jackson Square went from two to three stars in the 2017 edition of the MICHELIN Guide San Francisco Bay Area & Wine Country.

The restaurant's contemporary California-Italian cuisine is "absolutely over the moon," according to the Zagat. The Daily Meal considers Quince one of the 101 Best Restaurants in America.

Michelin says owners Lindsay and Michael Tusk's newfound stellar status is well-deserved.

"We have closely watched Chef Michael Tusk for several years now. In his cuisine, every dish, even the simplest, is exceptional," says the guide's International Director Michael Ellis. "It is his fine, precise techniques, that now makes Quince a unique experience for the customer: an experience that is worth the trip."

There are only 100 restaurants in the world that hold the 3-star distinction. Six of them are in the Bay Area: The French Laundry in Yountville, Restaurant at Meadowood in St Helena, Manresa in Los Gatos, and Benu, Saison and newcomer Quince in The City.

Here are the remaining 48 Northern California restaurants on this year's list:
