Filmmaker Arrested In Glen Park Shooting Death Speaks Out After Release From Jail

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- A documentary filmmaker arrested for the shooting death of a man inside his Glen Park home spoke out Wednesday after being released from jail Tuesday night.

"My attorney has advised me as it relates to the matters of this case I really can't speak on that period," Kevin Epps said after being asked if he shot the man who died.

That man, Marcus Polk Sr., used to be married to Epps' wife.

"I feel blessed," Epps told KPIX 5.

The district attorney says they have insufficient evidence to charge Epps in the fatal shooting.

"I'm just really blessed that in SF, the justice system can work and justice can work for a black man in America. It's just been very traumatic," Epps said.

Epps' lawyer says it was case of self-defense.

"The circumstances were such that the victim entered the home unwantingly, and made threats," Lawyer Mark Webb said.

"I'm just going through myriad of emotions it's been such a traumatic experience I can't. I'm just processing. I'm just trying to focus on my kids and my family and continue my life's work," Epps said.
