Mixed Emotions For Neighbors Ahead Of Apple 'Spaceship' Completion

CUPERTINO (KCBS) – The secretive Apple "Spaceship" campus in Cupertino is nearing completion. Locals are looking on their new neighbor with a combination of curiosity and concern.

Unlike other Apple products, this one has been hard to keep under wraps. When finished, the circular 4-story building near Wolfe Road and Interstate 280 will house about 13,000 employees.

"I don't know what kind of parking lot they have. I hope it's a big one," said Scott Carey, who hopes to eventually get a tour of the facility.

"Just like I'd like to see the inside of the Pentagon, but I'm not likely to."

Other neighbors were concerned about the traffic.

"Existing roads, by itself, are already clogged up during busy hours," another neighbor said. "And when the weather is bad like this, it's going to get worse."

Apple has paid $70 million to improve freeway off ramps and expand roads.

Construction was expected to be completed by the end of the year, but it now looks as though that might be pushed back, according to Apple Insider.
An Apple spokesperson would only say employees will be moving in sometime in early 2017.
