Sustainable Living, Environment Take Center Stage At Green Festival In S.F.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Sustainable living and environmental issues will take center stage this weekend during the Green Festival in San Francisco.

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the 15th annual festival which will take place for the first time at Pier 35, located at 1454 The Embarcadero, and runs Friday through Sunday, according to organizers.

During the three-day event, more than 250 exhibitors will be on hand, showcasing the latest in products and services that promote sustainable and healthy living, organizers said.

Additionally, the festival will have vegan and vegetarian food vendors, cooking demonstrations and yoga sessions.

Multiple speakers are also expected at the event, including the festival's executive director Michael Stoll. He was scheduled to appear on stage Friday around 1:30 p.m. to discuss rising sea levels and how it could affect waterfront developments around the Bay Area.

"San Francisco continues to be the epicenter for the sustainability movement, especially around food and technology," Green Festivals Inc. President Corinna Basler said in a statement.

"Green Festival is proud to bring together consumers, local businesses, environmental advocates, community leaders and sustainability experts, all under one roof to help advance this movement and created ways for people to discover new products and sustainable businesses that are making a difference for the future," she said.

Attendees have the option of purchasing tickets for a single day or for entrance to all three days. Prices range between $12 and $35.

The event however is free for members of Green America, Global Exchange and the Sierra Club. Attendees who arrive on bicycle will also get free admission as long as they show their bike helmet at the ticket booth. Children 16 and under will also be let in for free.

Students, seniors, veterans and military families will be able to get discounts on admission. Also, anyone who takes public transportation can get $5 off their ticket price, as long as they show their bus pass or Clipper card at the door, according to organizers.
