3 Victims Who Died After Thanksgiving Meal In Antioch Identified

ANTIOCH () -- The Contra Costa County coroner on Wednesday identified the three victims in the possible food-related deaths likely linked to a Thanksgiving meal in Antioch.

The victims were identified as 43-year old Christopher Cappetti, 59-year-old Chooi Keng Cheah and 69-year-old Jane Evans.

All three were residents at assisted living facilities in Antioch who were served food at the Thanksgiving Day event at the Antioch American Legion hall last Thursday.

Health officials also announced that they had found two more cases possibly connected to the dinner, bringing the total number of known cases of likely foodborne illness to 19.

Autopsies on the victims showed that all three had similar intestinal abnormalities. The Forensic Pathologist with the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff Coroner's Division is trying to determine the causes of death, which are pending the results of various tests.

On Tuesday, Contra Costa health officials announced that the total number of possible cases of illness likely linked to the Thanksgiving meal in Antioch had risen to 17.

Contra Costa Health Services said they are investigating nine additional illnesses after initially reporting eight cases a day earlier, including three fatalities.

None of those nine new cases required hospitalization, health officials said.

According to a release, investigators are in the process of collecting biological samples from the reported cases for testing at county and state public health laboratories.

The Coroner's Division continues to work with Contra Costa Health Services on this case.
