17-Year-Old San Francisco Student Killed In Oakland Warehouse Fire
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A 17-year-old killed in Friday night's fire during a concert at an Oakland warehouse has reportedly been identified as a student at a high school in San Francisco.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, school officials have identified the teen as Draven McGill, a junior at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts. McGill was the son of Phil McGill, a deputy for the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
"It's extremely tragic. To imagine the loss of your 17-year-old son is horrifying," Alameda County Sheriff-Coroner Greg Ahern said in a Monday afternoon press conference. "And it really touches home with all of our people who worked alongside our deputy for the past 10 years. So it is really emotional for people working on this site and the families that have lost a loved one."

"As sad as we are today, I know that how we react in challenging times is what defines us as a community. As parents, teachers, children, students, brothers, sisters, and friends, we share in the heartbreak of his family and will embrace them and each other as Asawa SOTA family. We must rise to this occasion and rally around each other with love, compassion and support," school principal Barnaby Payne said in a statement Monday morning.
Grief counselors will be on campus Monday.
As of early Monday morning, the death toll from the fire stands at 36 people.
Victims of the fire include Sarah Hoda, of Walnut Creek, Cash Askew, 22, David Clines, 35, Travis Hough, 35, and Donna Kellogg, 32, all of Oakland; Nick Gomez-Hall, 25, of Coronado, and Brandon Chase Wittenauer, 32, of Hayward.
Three other victims have been identified, but their names have not been released to the public.
Crews have suspended the search for additional victims inside the warehouse, because the structure has been declared unstable.
