San Jose Teacher Accused Of Having Sexual Relationship With Student

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A teacher suspected of having an inappropriate relationship with an underage student at Santa Teresa High School in San Jose has been arrested, East Side Union High School District officials said Thursday.

The instructor, Trudy Hill, was booked into jail on suspicion of sexual assault on a minor and has been placed on leave from the job, district Superintendent Chris Funk said in a statement.

"We are shocked and deeply disturbed by these allegations," Funk said.

"We want to assure the community that the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority," he said.

The district has cooperated with police and is conducting its own investigation to make sure staff have enough training and resources to prevent future cases of sexual assault, according to Funk.

The district is supporting the victimized student and family, Funk said.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police Detective Brian Spears at (408) 537-1397.
