Livermore Finds Parrot, Tries To Get It To Talk To Find Owner

LIVERMORE (KPIX 5) -- A Livermore woman who found a parrot is trying to get it to talk so she can track down the owners.

Halayna Turner is a student at Las Positas College and she often meets a friend at a coffee shop in Downtown Livermore.

But about two weeks ago she and a friend saw something sleeping in the parking lot.

"I was like, oh my god, there's a bird on the ground and she was like, 'what?' And she came over and looked at it, and we're like, that's not a wild bird," Halayna told KPIX 5.

They scooped up the tiny parrot, and Halayna took it home.

Luckily she has owned birds before and happened to have a cage just perfect for it.  But she also has a soft spot for animals.

"I really want to return it to its rightful home," she said.

Halayna was hoping the bird would talk, but so far, tweet tweet is all she can get out of it.

Halayna has posted notices and flyers on social media. She did get a text from someone who asked if the bird would respond to the name "Jasper," but, that didn't work either.

Halayna likes the little fellow and, wouldn't mind keeping him.  But, she knows how she would feel if she lost a pet so she's doing the right thing.  So, if you've lost a feathered friend in the Livermore area lately and have a picture of it or can describe its color - you may be in luck.

But Halayna says the owner might want to hurry.

"When I brought the bird home my cat was very interested. So, I try to keep them separated.
