Man Rescued Dangling From San Francisco Cliff
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) --- Rescue teams battled high winds and wet conditions early Friday to rescue a man who had fallen down a steep cliff behind a home in San Francisco's oceanside Sea Cliff neighborhood.
Authorities said a 911 call came in around 1 a.m. of someone calling for help from the steep cliff area behind the 200 block of Sea Cliff.
Arriving firefighters were able to locate the man dangling about 100 feet down the cliff.
"It was a difficult rescue," said SFFD Battalion Chief Denise Newman. "There were 50 mph gusts (of wind), it was wet and it was dark."
Rescue teams from three different companies combined to execute the rescue that took about an hour. The man was pulled to safety apparently uninjured from his ordeal.
"I've been told he might have been down there for a couple hours," Newman said. "He's cold…He's happy to be alive."
The man's identity was not released or how he became stranded down the side of the cliff.
