49ers Trade For Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo

(KPIX 5) — The 49ers made a deal to bring a new quarterback to Santa Clara. The team acquired Jimmy Garoppolo in a trade with the New England Patriots for a second-round draft pick in 2018.

“We are thrilled for Jimmy to join the 49ers family,” said 49ers general manager John Lynch in a press release. “Jimmy is a player we have researched extensively since Kyle and I joined the 49ers. I am extremely pleased this came together today and we all think it is a big win for our organization.”

Garoppolo has started only two games during his four year career, and went 2-0 when he replaced Tom Brady last season during his “Deflategate” suspension.

As a result of the trade ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the 49ers released Brian Hoyer the team’s starting quarterback for the first six games of the season before being replaced by rookie C.J. Beathard.

The 49ers are 0-8 in 2017, their worst start in franchise history. There is speculation Garoppolo could see game action after the 49ers bye week in mid-November.
