Police Seek Suspect Who Fired Gun in Menlo Park Neighborhood
MENLO PARK (CBS SF) -- Residents of the 1100 block of Sevier Avenue in Menlo Park no longer need to shelter in place and police officers on Sunday were seeking a shooting suspect who may be armed.
Officers identified Jose Gutierrez, 36, as the suspect in the incident. Gutierrez may be driving a silver Honda Accord, license plate 5ZCK527, according to police.
The case began Saturday night, around 11 p.m., with a report of a man allegedly firing an assault-type weapon in the backyard of his home.
Witnesses alleged he was upset over a loud party next door.
Officers tried to contact people in the Gutierrez's home but couldn't get a response. Witnesses said a man with an illegal gun might be in the house, according to police.
Officers got a search warrant and the San Mateo South County Regional Special Weapons and Tactics team went into the home around 8:57 a.m. Sunday and searched for the suspect, police said.
The SWAT team didn't find the suspect but said they found an AR-style rifle in the suspect's residence along with evidence of a shooting.
The Menlo Park police department has asked anyone with information about the case to call police directly at (650) 330-6300, to call the Menlo Park police anonymous tip hotline at (650) 330-6395, or to contact Detective Sgt. Ed Soares at ejsoares@menlopark.org.
