SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – A man was arrested Sunday after he admitted to stealing ashes and personal items from a San Jose cemetery.

A woman reported on Thursday afternoon that an urn with her daughter’s ashes had been stolen from a mausoleum at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery at 2650 Madden Ave.

An investigation led police to make an arrest on Orchard Parkway on Sunday. They found Daniel Jimenez Hernandez sitting inside his car at the location, and recovered the urn and additional personal items.

Jimenez Hernandez was arrested for three arrest warrants, possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and providing false identification to police.

He was booked into Elmwood Jail in Milpitas without bail. Police did not provide any information about a possible motive, or whether the suspect knew the family that was victim to the theft.
