HAYWARD (CBS SF) — Hayward police are investigating two fatal shootings that occurred within 24 hours, just a couple of miles from each other. Although there are some similarities, police say the two cases are not related.

The first shooting happened in the area of Amador Way and Yolo Street. Hayward police got calls of shots fired around 4:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Paramedics rushed to the scene but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two shootings within hours of each other have caused many residents to be concerned about their safety.

“I was just shocked. I seen the body and the lady called police,” said one man who didn’t want to be identified. “It was really loud as soon as I came out. I was like, ‘Wow.’ Pretty traumatizing.”

Sandra Segura, also a Hayward resident added, “My sister called here and she said you need to be careful because there is a lot of police and everything.”

Just a little more than six hours later, the second shooting happened at the 27000 block of Belvedere Court. The circumstances were similar; officers responded to shots fired and found a man dead at the scene.

KPIX talked with a neighbor who didn’t want to appear on camera. The woman says she didn’t hear any gunshots or sirens but noticed a fleet of police cars parked along the street in the middle of the night.

She says this is the second murder on the cul de sac within the last few years. The previous murder happened in September of 2015. The shootings have residents on edge, wondering what’s going on in their community.

“Sometimes you don’t know what nice and not nice anymore. It’s a little crazy around here,” Segura said.

These two cases bring Hayward’s homicide total to four in 2019.

Investigators say they will release more information as soon as possible, but so far they have nothing on the possible motive or suspects in this case.
