SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Fear over racially motivated attacks is not new to KPIX 5 reporter Da Lin, he and his family have experienced it.

In 1995, Da and some young friends were walking near Roosevelt Middle School in Oakland when they were attacked.

“A large group of people came up from behind us and jumped us,” he recalled. “Beat us up in broad daylight. Never saw them coming. Never talked to them. Never met them. Just an unprovoked attack.”
