If you haven’t yet picked up a Valentine’s gift, you’re running out of time. Now is the time to decide what to get your sweetheart, especially if you were planning on arranging for chocolates and flowers to be delivered. Fortunately, there are many stores throughout San Francisco that are awaiting your arrival, call or email. Here is a small sampling of five of the best places to buy Valentine’s gifts for her in San Francisco, all of them pleasantly unique to the City by the Bay.
One Ferry Building, Shop #30
San Francisco, CA 94111
The Ferry Building Marketplace is a great spot for Valentine’s Day gift ideas, particularly the expertly handcrafted chocolates at Recchiuti Confections. A platinum collection of 88 pieces sets the high bar at $168, but there are many more affordable boxes, such as the popular S’mores kit for $25 and a six-ounce package of Burnt Caramel Almonds for $13. Other items available include chocolate bars and sauces and specialty snacks. Founded by master chocolatier Michael Recchiuti and his wife Jacky, another store, Little Nib, can be found in the Dogpatch neighborhood on 22nd Street.
1947 Union St.
San Francisco, CA 94123
Marked by several stately Victorian homes, the bustling Union Street shopping district is filled with many boutique stores, salons and clothing stores. Among the best to find unique Valentine’s Day gifts is Bella Boutique, a locally owned jewelry and accessories store. All of the Bella jewelry is designed and crafted in store and is surprisingly affordable, with most items, including bracelets and earrings, priced around $50. The charming boutique store also carries jewelry from other designers, in addition to handbags, wallets, scarves and other fashion accessories.
26 O’Farrell St.
San Francisco, CA 94108
Founded by two Stanford University grads, Brilliant Earth sells conflict-free jewelry using recycled precious metals. Customers can choose from custom made rings, pendants, earrings and other fine jewelry. Many items such as a silver wave pendant, silver initial pendant and 18k yellow gold moon stud earrings are priced under $200. Located right off Market Street near Emporio Armani and Barney’s New York, the showroom is by appointment only but available seven days a week.
San Francisco Flower Mart
640 Brannan St.
San Francisco, CA 94107
One easy way to brighten up Valentine’s Day is with a dazzling bouquet of roses or other colorful floral arrangements. For the best selection of fresh flowers in the city, the San Francisco Flower Mart is the only place to go. Located a few blocks from the San Francisco Cal Train Station, the lively flower market has more than 50 vendors specializing in cut flowers, blooming plants and other related products. Good choices for cut flowers include Farmgirl Flowers, SOMA Flowers and Shibata Floral Company. Famous television personality Martha Stewart once described the San Francisco Flower Mart as the “best flower market in the country.”
San Francisco Giants Dugout Store
24 Willie Mays Plaza
San Francisco, CA 94107
If you live in San Francisco, chances are you and your sweetheart are Giants fans. While a sports-related gift might not seem romantic to every San Franciscan, your sweetie may really be thrilled to receive a San Francisco Giants diamond necklace or a 14k yellow gold necklace with a Giants logo for Valentine’s Day. Other great gift ideas for women include a Dooney and Bourke-San Francisco Giants duffle bag, women’s jackets and Giants baseball caps. Of course, two tickets to see the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants can also make for a great Valentine’s Day gift.
