First dates can be both thrilling and terrifying all at once. Getting to know someone knew is always easier when structured around another activity or a meal. San Francisco offers a multitude of options for those looking to plan a date. Let us help ease some of those first date jitters with this list of San Francisco first date spots.

The Social Study
1795 Geary Blvd.
San Francisco, CA 94115
(415) 292-7417

Ensconced with a padded wall along one side and floor-to-ceiling brick on the other, the Fillmore’s Social Study offers an ideal backdrop for either daytime or nighttime first dates. By day, first daters at the Social Study can nab one of the tables for two and enjoy a locally roasted gourmet coffee and pastry. Alternatively, meet up at night to sip one of the lounge’s specialty winetails or beertails while noshing on some bar nibbles like marinated olives or potato bruschetta. Waiting for a date to arrive is made less stressful with complementary WIFI and projected movies on the brick wall.

1224 9th Ave.
San Francisco, CA 94122
(415) 233-9966

Located just outside of Golden Gate Park, Nopalito’s serves up traditional fresh Mexican fare. The menu features favorites like carnitas, chicken mole and ceviche, as well as seasonal sangria, margaritas and a variety of cocktails. The open kitchen offers plenty of distraction and inspiration should first date conversation lag. Make sure to call ahead during the dinner hour, as traditional reservations are not accepted and wait times can be very lengthy.

Urban Putt

San Francisco, CA 94110
(415) 341-1080

Urban Putt offers a great backdrop for a first date. This restaurant, bar and indoor mini golf course offers a little bit of everything to keep customers entertained. Bring a date for a round of golf to break the ice and then afterwards tuck into an evening of dinner and drinks. The Urban Putt restaurant menu features solid American fare like pizzas, steak sandwiches and ribs, as well as plenty of smaller bar bites or desserts for those looking for less commitment.

Musee Mecanique
Pier 45
San Francisco, CA 94133

A perfect location for the date with an open mind is the Musee Mecanique located on Fisherman’s Wharf. With free admission daily, the museum houses an impressive collection of mechanized musical instruments, slot machines and penny arcade games. The interactive museum’s games are fully operational and most cost between a penny and a dollar per play. Museum hours run 10 a.m to 8 p.m daily.

Palmer’s Tavern
2298 Fillmore St.
San Francisco, CA 94115

Those looking for a shorter commitment date should check out Palmer’s daily happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
