Chantal Guillon Macarons

Hayes Valley is ground zero for pretty pastel Parisian-style macarons. This patisserie can also serve you in SoMa and in Palo Alto. Alternatively, Miette is at 449 Octavia St., the Ferry Building, and at Jack London Square, Oakland. Gourmey & More does macarons at 141 Gough St., too. Get an assorted box of classic flavors and 2015 spring/summer collection if you simply cannot figure out if mom would be attracted to almond amaretto, pulled toward passion fruit or drawn to dark chocolate, but all are possibly too pretty to eat.

Have you noticed lately how many chefs are using La Chamba black clay pot cookware, handcrafted along the Magdalena River in Colombia? The lightweight and unglazed pots and pans are so sturdy that archeologists have dug up items 700 years old. It cleans easily, so save precious water by not having to scour and scrub repeatedly. They’re stocking La Chamba, along with other brands, at this friendly, independent kitchen store on Half Moon Bay’s pleasant Main St. Choose something with their expert guidance or go with a Mother’s Day gift certificate.
