How real is your fake? Billing itself as “a real magic shop for real magicians,” check out Misdirections Magic Shop’s line of merchandise if you gave up whoopee cushions in middle school. But if pranks, jokes and gags are still in your repertoire, no worries, this spot has 198 items in that category, too, from fake ants to no-tear toilet paper. Mind you, the emphasis is on the advanced stuff.

Create funny, clever, cool. Gosh, if this shop didn’t already exist, what a great idea it would be. As they put it at My Trick Pony, it works like this. “Here is how it’s done: You dream, you email, we design, your dream is done!” Plan ahead to fire your imagination, take it through the design stages and on to delivery. It doesn’t have to be just a T-shirt, but the shop does have many happy clients and teams who have ordered just that.

House of Humor
747 El Camino Real
Redwood City, CA 94063
(650) 368-5524

Novelty items and gags are mixed in with the costumes and accessories. Pinocchio noses, witches’ ugly chins, stepped in doo for the shoe, fart spray, false teeth wigs, makeup and the like can be found at House of Humor. Halloween is this spot’s big season, but look for the gag gift section to get ramped up as April Fools’ Day rolls around too.

(415) 433-1422

If you felt the need for a realistic-looking fake bagel with a cockroach underneath, this is the place. Ice cubes with an insect inside, invisible ink, exploding lipstick, rubber mouse and things of that nature are in abundance at Houdini’s Magic Shop. However, this place is primarily into magic and illusion, and even has visiting magicians entertaining customers in the shop on bustling Pier 39.
