Ex-LAPD Captain Testifies in Mehserle Trial
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A retired Los Angeles police captain has testified he believes a former Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer accused of killing an unarmed black man didn't have enough stun gun training.
Greg Meyer was called Monday as a defense witness in the case of Johannes Mehserle, who has pleaded not guilty to murdering Oscar Grant on New Year's Day 2009 during an incident at an Oakland train station.
Meyer says Mehserle wasn't given adequate training to avoid possible confusion between using his handgun and his Taser stun gun.
Mehserle, who resigned from Bay Area Rapid Transit after the incident, testified last week that he mistakenly pulled out his .40-caliber gun instead of a Taser.
The defense could rest its case by Tuesday.
