Schwarzenegger Sues to Enforce Minimum Wage

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCBS)- Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's administration has filed a new lawsuit in an attempt to force the state controller to pay California government workers the federal minimum wage.

The suit seeks a restraining order that would force controller John Chiang to pay state employees $7.25 an hour rather than their full salaries.

Last week an appellate court ruled that Schwarzenegger had the authority to order the minimum wage because the state has not passed a budget for the current fiscal year.

Chiang argued that he couldn't follow the order because the state's computer payroll system couldn't handle the change.
