Crying Kids on Planes

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) _ Can you imagine flying on a plane that doesn't allow babies onboard? Or airlines putting children in a "families only" section of a plane?

These ideas are catching on with plenty of travelers. Out of 2,000 surveyed by the fare comparison site Skyscanner, 53 percent said they didn't have young children and like the idea of a "families only" section on a plane, preferably as far away from them as possible.

"It's one of those things where if you're going to get on a crowded conveyance, you're going to have things like this happen," said Mike Boyd of the aviation consulting firm Boyd International.

He said unfortunately, wailing children are simply a fact of life in air travel.

"It's almost impossible because seats are selected by passengers well in advance," said Boyd. "And if you blocked off certain sections, it would make thing a lot more difficult. It's a laudable idea, but not one that's possible."

If "family only" sections are unmanageable, Boyd said you can forget about no children flights. He said it would be impossible to manage and something airlines can't even really address.
