Bill Gates Gives $700,000 To Defeat Proposition 23

SACRAMENTO (AP) — The campaign against Proposition 23 — the ballot initiative that would push back California’s landmark global warming law — is getting another big financial boost from a high-tech billionaire.

The Sacramento Bee reports that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has donated $700,000 to the No on Prop. 23 committee.

The donation from Gates comes after Google Inc. co-founder Sergey Brin last week contributed $200,000 to the campaign. Intel Corp. co-founder Gordon Moore has contributed $1 million.

If approved by voters, the initiative would suspend the Global Warming Solutions Act until California’s unemployment rates drops to 5.5 percent for four consecutive quarters.

The climate change law is scheduled to go in effect in 2012.

The 54-year-old Gates co-founded Microsoft in 1975. His net worth has been estimated by Forbes magazine at $54 billion.

Now it’s your turn Steve Jobs.

Whenever I look at Bill Gates he reminds me of Tooter The Turtle on the “Mr. Wizard” cartoon show.
    “Help! Mr. Wizard!!”
“Drizzle, Drazzle, Drozzle, Drome, Time for this one to come home”

Unfortunately, mass stupidity is hard to overcome. Voting for moronic tea party candidates for Senator just one example. The country is overrun with ignorance.

    • Terry

For Michael: Sounds like you know all about stupidity! Let’s be clear: Voting for a B Boxer who has never had an original idea in her life, has proposed nothing except coddling unions while remaining a big government Democratic shill, and ranks as one of the most out of touch politicians in a sea of demagogues is your idea of intelligence? You are correct, the country (think Liberal) is overrun with ignorance!!

      • PAposter

Terry….the whole projection thing is tired and boring, you are not likely to convince anyone with an education beyond elementary school that a Tea Party candidate is good for California.

  • Eng England

So, let me get this straight, the “news” is that three self-employed billionaire robber barons are contributing what to them is a pittance to defeat a proposition that is designed to combat unemployment in a recession?

  • Pat Bentzley

Bill Gates is a great American. Why can’t we get people of his caliber to run for President or governor???????

  • TrulyYours

Michael– The problem is not moronic tea party candidates, but the environmentalist’s and the liberal’s intent to impose their life-style and belief on the others.
Prop. 23 is a win-win proposition. For those who support California’s landmark global warming law, they can still volunteer to comply with the law. However, for those who fear the economical consequence of the law, they are not obligated to comply until the economy is recovery. What is wrong with it? Bill Gate is also presenting big business. As far as I can tell, both pro- and against prop. 23 owe it to big businesses.

    • PAposter

      Volunteer to comply….bwaahahahahahahahaha!

  • TrulyYours

I remember before 2000, Microsoft was called the evil empire that wanted to take over the world and Bill Gate was its evil emperor. I am amaze how opinion changes.

  • Terry

Truly Yours: Your feel good answer misses the point. And the point is that this “climate” legislation will do nothing, repeat nothing, to change climatic conditions. What it will do is drain the economic infrastructure of CA as they support the massive subsidies and wealth transfer from businesses in CA to the “green jobs industry” who cannot exist without the government confiscating people’s money and giving it to industries that cannot make it in the marketplace. This loony legislation will CRUSH jobs in our state. Meanwhile, all the Greenies can feel good about themselves while CA moves to 20% unemployment!!

    • PAposter

Yeah, and oil is real job creator, as well as the child porn industry….what’s your point?!?

Bill Gates can go f himself ! He cant buy this election. Him and his idiot father should just go to China or be TAXED TO DEATH LIKE US ORDINARY PEOPLE !

    • PAposter

Really…how do you feel about Megabucks Whitman and Phony Fiorina…two corrupt, failed executives who have done not positive with their wealth EVER!

  • Oh Well It's Only Money

Bill Gucionnes. In a few years just another name in history.
