Watsonville Teen Murder Suspect Charged As Adult
WATSONVILLE (KCBS) -- The Santa Cruz County DA's office has decided to charge a 17-year-old boy as an adult. The suspect is accused of killing Fiesta Latino Market owner Yayha Ahmed.
Watsonville police officers said the 17-year-old suspect and another youth had escaped from a Tulare County group home a few days before. Officers say the suspect cased the store twice before the shooting.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
Watsonville police chief Manny Solano said 20 officers worked around the clock on the case.
"We're extremely pleased, both for the family of Mr. Ahmed and for the community that we were able to quickly bring this dangerous person to justice," Solano said.
The suspect was arrested in Eureka three days after the shooting in Watsonville.
