Homicide Suspected In Woman's Death In East Oakland

OAKLAND (BCN) - A body found in East Oakland Thursday morning has been identified as that of a 46-year-old woman, and police are treating the death as a homicide, a police spokesman said Friday.

Police received a call at 5:52 a.m. Thursday about a woman who appeared to be dead on the street near the intersection of 98th and Medford avenues, Oakland police Officer Jeff Thomason said.

Officers responded and located the body, Thomason said. The woman's identity is not being released until her family is notified, he said.

The cause of the woman's death is pending the results of an autopsy performed earlier today by the Alameda County coroner's bureau, but police believe she may have died from a blunt force trauma, Thomason said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the homicide and no suspect information was immediately available, he said.

Anyone with information about the death is encouraged to contact the Oakland Police Department's homicide section at (510) 238-3821.
