San Francisco Police Officer Dragged By SUV Fleeing Traffic Stop

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) — San Francisco police fired on a SUV Friday afternoon in the city’s Hayes Valley neighborhood after the driver fled a traffic stop, dragging an officer alongside the car for a short distance, a police spokesman said.

The incident took place around 2:20 p.m. at Buchanan and Fell streets.

KCBS’ Tim Ryan Reports:

According to police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza, officers pulled over a tan or gold Chevrolet Blazer with two men inside as part of a suspected narcotics investigation.

When one of the officers approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, the driver “made some movement toward the center console area of the vehicle,” Esparza said.

When the officer tried to pull the driver’s arm away from the console, the driver took off, dragging the officer a few feet before he broke free, according to Esparza.

Another officer then opened fire on the fleeing vehicle, Esparza said.

He did not know whether the vehicle or any of its occupants were hit.

Police found the vehicle around 2:40 p.m., abandoned in the 300 block of Webster Street a few blocks away, according to Esparza.

The suspects have not yet been found, he said.

The officer who was dragged suffered minor injuries and did not have to be hospitalized, Esparza said.

The Ban Francisco supervisors can easily prevent these kinds of incidents. Just ban all SUVs. It’s that simple. Come on Ban Francisco, demonstrate your superior intellect to the world. It’s not just about guns, plastic bags or Happy Meals any more. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

NRA LM: It’s about balance. And your comment about SUVs is absurd. Although 90% of SUV owners don’t use their vehicles for its off-road abilities, most use it as a station wagon (and through the gas tax revenues, in turn, “pays” the government). Next you’ll be saying “ban government.” I’m surprised I’m even commenting on your comment.

“tnq”, are you clueless? I know my comment was absurd. Ban Francisco is absurd. That’s the whole point. Ever heard of the word “sarcasm” or do you just aspire to argue with someone that shares the same viewpoint? I do agree that about 75% of the government bureaucracy does need to be eliminated in order to give the power back to the people, like it was designed. I also am surprised that you are commenting on my comment. Someone else must be operating the keyboard for you.

NRA LM: I’m ignoring an obvious attempt at trolling.

If someone reached into my car and tried to stop me from doing anything I would drive off dragging them under the car as well.
