Defense Rests In Tracy Teen Torture Trial

TRACY (AP) -- A jury could be closer to determining the fate of a man accused of torturing a teen captive in a Central Valley home for more than a year.

The Contra Costa Times reports on Tuesday that defense attorney Allan Jose has rested his case after two days of calling witnesses in the trial of Anthony Waiters.

The 31-year-old Waiters has pleaded not guilty to aggravated mayhem, torture, kidnapping and false imprisonment charges stemming from allegations by then-16-year-old Kyle Ramirez who was held captive Waiters' neighbors home in Tracy.

Ramirez testified last month that Waiters cut him, lit his pants on fire and beat him unconscious between 2007 and 2008.

Waiters is the last defendant facing prosecution. His neighbors and the teen victim's then-legal guardian all accepted pleas last month to more than a dozen felonies.
