Electric Car Charging Station Unveiled At San Francisco's Pier 27

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- San Francisco now has an EV station to charge electric cars located at Pier 27 on the Embarcadero.

A full charge takes about an hour and costs two dollars.

KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:

"This is really a long term commitment that we have made in San Francisco to begin to address the issue of our greenhouse gas emissions and to change the way we produce and consume energy," said San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.

The EV station was installed by Coulomb Technologies and CEO Richard Lowenthal demonstrated how the station will work.

"This car has about a 90 mile range and my office is 50 miles away," said Lowenthal. "It's over there charging so I can make it home from San Francisco back down to Campbell."

The hope is to eventually have charging stations like this one at convenient and frequent locations all over the Bay Area.
