The Wonder & Amazement Of Cavalia In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A newborn horse stumbles to his feet in a touching video. A team of horses run full speed past your eyes. The artists ride horses in ways you never thought possible, including 6 horses at once!

This is a show that keeps you wide-eyed and amazed right up to the final bow and it leaves you wanting more.

"Cavalia: A Magical Encounter Between Horse and Man" is a production unlike any other.

Created by Normand Latourelle, one of the founders of Cirque du Soleil, it combines equestrian arts with dance and acrobatics, live music, and stunning visual effects.

Since the world premiere seven years ago, there have been more than 1,600 performances around the world and features 27 artists from Canada, France, the United States, Morocco, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, as well as 50 horses representing 10 breeds.

In a recent interview with SFGate, Latourelle discusses the beauty of humans performing with the amazing creatures. "Some people have it - the horse doesn't lie, he doesn't make mistakes," Latourelle explains. "He knows. We know very soon. ... You can't fake it with horses. What you get to see in 'Cavalia' is no trick. You get to see the truth, because half of the time, the horses are totally free onstage. They are who they are."

Other Bay Area reviews, for example, from StarkInsider.com - "Cavalia honors the mystique of horses, their ability to connect uniquely with human beings and their extraordinary achievements across our history."

Diane LeBow of the Examiner writes - "There's something about the outside of a horse that's good for the inside of a person," is an old English saying. Judging from the joyful expressions on spectators' faces at any performance of Cavalia, this phenomenon still hold true."
