BYU Edges Saint Mary's For South Padre Island Championship

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP) ― Jimmer Fredette scored 24 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 10 seconds left. to lead No. 23 BYU to a 74-73 victory over Saint Mary's on Saturday night in the South Padre Island Championship.

Fredette scored seven of BYU's last nine points and Charles Adouo iced the game with the others, hitting two free throws after grabbing Matthew Dellavedo's failed runner in the paint with one second left for a 74-70 lead. Mickey McConnell hit a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin.

Emery Jackson added 15 points for BYU (8-0) and Kyle Collinsworth had 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Rob Jones led the Gaels (6-1) with 18 points, while Mitchell Young and McConnell had 12 each and Dellavedo added 11.
