Hip Hop Artist, Nelly Unhappy With Record Label
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS) - With two weeks having passed since the release of Nelly's new album 5.0, the American rapper has voiced his discontent with the record industry and namely his record label, Universal Motown.
Last.fm Trends takes a look at the release to see how low the stats go on Last.fm.
Six studio albums to date has meant that Nelly sits with a current scrobble count of 8,419,926, with his most played album so far being his second release, Nellyville, with 1,172,767 scrobbles.
With two weeks having passed since the release of 5.0, it appears that the low sales count has had an effect on early listening stats for the album. The album was preceded by two singles; "Just A Dream" and "Move That Body," released in August and October respectively. The former has been featured on the popular compilation series Now That's What I Call Music , and currently holds 462,178 scrobbles.
It doesn't bode well then that the second single, "Move That Body," has just 10,761 scrobbles. Even though it was a download-only single, the lack of listeners must be disappointing for the star. The track, which features T-Pain and Akon, also received various negative reviews.
With Nelly's previous hits such as "Ride Wit Me" and "Hot In Herre" holding over a million scrobbles between them, it seems that despite 5.0 will have a hard task ahead of itself to reach the heights of previous releases.
Nelly will be in the Bay Area Wednesday, December 1st at MOViN 99.7's Triple Ho Show along with Enrique Iglesias,, Taio Cruz, Jay Sean, Far East Movement and 'iCarly' star, Miranda Cosgrove.
