Cal Self-Imposes Sanctions On Men's Hoops Team

BERKELEY (CBS/AP) -- The Cal men's basketball team has self-imposed sanctions on the program for violating rules about phone calls to recruits.

The school released a statement Saturday saying officials quickly reported the infractions to the NCAA and Pac-10 as soon as they were discovered and sanctioned the individuals involved.

The school says internal and external investigations have determined the violations from 2008 were not intentional.

FoxSports.com first reported the story. The website said Cal coach Mike Montgomery and members of his staff appeared Friday in front of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions in Indianapolis.

Because the case is in front of the NCAA, the school says it has no additional comment.
