Vigil Held For Vallejo Man Shot Dead By Police

VALLEJO (AP) -- Friends of a Vallejo man who was shot by a police officer over the weekend are questioning whether police were justified in shooting him.

Officers had been responding to a 911 call from a store owner who reported seeing a group of people with video cameras and a man brandishing a firearm. Police say 34-year-old Guy Jarreau Jr. ran from officers, then turned around while holding a gun, prompting them to open fire.

But at a candlelight vigil for Jarreau on Wednesday, friends who witnessed the shooting said he was working on a music video and did not pose a threat.

Martin L'Esperance said Jarreau did not reveal the weapon, but may have had it to protect the camera equipment.

Sgt. Kenny Park says investigators are reviewing video footage taken by the group.
