Palo Alto Defeats Centennial In Division I State Championship
CARSON (AP) -- Christoph Bono threw two touchdown passes to lead Palo Alto to a 15-13 victory over Centennial of Corona in the Division I CIF state football championship game Friday night.
Bono, son of former NFL quarterback Steve Bono, threw an 11-yard scoring pass to Davante Adams and an 80-yard strike to Maurice Williams for the Vikings (15-0). Bono completed 13 of 23 passes for 215 yards.
The Huskies (14-1) recovered from a 15-0 deficit and had a chance to win on a late field goal. But Ezequiel Rivera shanked his 42-yard attempt with 30.4 seconds to play.
Centennial quarterback Michael Eubank ran for 164 yards and a 33-yard touchdown, and passed for 111 yards. Eubank's 80-yard run set a CIF state championship record for the longest run from scrimmage.
Romello Goodman added a 4-yard touchdown run and 102 rushing yards. Barrington Collins ran for 150 yards.
