Southbay Parents Find Intruder In 4-Year-Old's Bedroom

SAN JOSE (CBS/BCN/AP) -- Authorities have arrested a Santa Clara County man who allegedly was found in the bedroom of a sleeping 4-year-old girl, then fought with her parents when they discovered the intruder.

Sheriff's officials say 33-year-old Joe Washington walked through the front door of the family's apartment around 11:30 p.m. Sunday and went into the girl's bedroom.

Authorities say another child in the home immediately told the parents. The couple pushed their way into the bedroom and fought with the man before forcing him out.

The girl was not hurt.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that deputies later found Washington at his home on Vaughn Avenue and arrested him on suspicion of burglary and annoying and molesting a child.

Investigators say there is no relationship between Washington and the family.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Santa Clara County sheriff's Detective Tony Hickman at (408) 808-4500. Anonymous callers can use the sheriff's tip line at (408) 808-4431.
