California’s Tea Party: Don’t Blame Movement For Arizona Shooting

SACRAMENTO (AP) ― The Tea Party Express said blaming the constitutionalist movement and Sarah Palin for the Arizona shooting that killed six people and wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is “outrageous.”

The California-based group said liberals are trying to exploit the shooting for political gain and place the blame on society for embracing the tea party movement, but the 22-year-old charged in the shooting is the only person responsible for the violence.

In a statement Monday, the Tea Party Express said if the suspect, Jared Loughner, has a definable political ideology, it is that of a far-left anarchist, nothing close to the tea party movement.

The group said some were quick to attack the tea party in an effort to demean and diminish support for the movement, but the tea party seeks change through peaceful means.

The donkeys are all braying the same tune, but one can’t help noticing the hypocrisy. When George Soros’ Code Pink types were calling for President Bush to be assassinated or hung, where were the calls for moderation then? The suspect’s favorite reading materials were Das Kapital and Mein Kampf, the ur-texts of the modern state socialist movement. Look inward- if you dare.

    • Palindrome

Tours Martel is braying a false tune. Code Pin never once asked for Pres. Bush to be assassinated. Not once. Not ever. Also, another of the suspect’s reading material was Ayn Rand’s We The Living. Also he liked Brave New World and Orwell’s 1984.

Funny how none of that is in TM’s post. Just lies and misinformation. Typical Tea Party conversation.

I like to offer a suggestion to all those who don’t believe that today’s political hate speech had anything to do with the Arizona shootings: Let’s put cross-hairs over YOUR pictures on a poster and hand it to my paranoid schizophrenic neighbor who believes she is being followed and attacked by government agents.

We’ll tell her that if she wants to save America and eliminate the evil-doers who are attacking her, she need only look to the pictures on the poster and do what the poster instructs! She has a car – she has the wherewithal to obtain a weapon.

Now, tell us how safe you feel and whether you feel WE violated your human-rights to safety! Let’s all “Lock and Load” and call for the “Second Amendment Remedy”. I am certain my neighbor will be more than happy to accommodate you all!

For uc berkeley professor to say “there’s always been violence in American discourse since the founding fathers” is moot. Let’s not be so simple minded. There wasn’t radio, media, etc. How many times did we hear and see an elected official call the president a liar during the state of the union address. It only happened once, yet it was seen over and over and over. Probably a few more times than we would have seen it in george washington’s time. You think? Plus we can review and replay for our own pleasure as much as possible. It’s easier to get a gun now, too.
Come on sugarman, your one of my favorite reporters, but how about a comparison that makes sense. thank you.

I have to say Winter 07 you have said it all and I have to agree with you. Well said.

typical teabagger rhetoric………do all the little goofy things they do like cross hairs on the maps and other little goofy things like that but its somebody elses fault when their cute little actions come back to haunt them… i dont believe they caused this shooting but it does cause one to look at what that goofy rhetoric could cause and its not hard to see except to those to blind to see it

  • lidra

First of all we know inflammatory rhetoric works or talk radio wouldn’t exist. We also know that part of what happened is indeed the people that preach hatred of other people’s fault.there is no real doubt in anyone’s mind whatsoever. The problem is that he killed a child, had she not died Limbaugh and his cronies would have been crowing about their win and we all know that as well. The ONLY and I mean Only reason they are not shouting it from the rooftops is that because a baby died it might actually cause someone who would normally be a reasonable person if they didn’t listen to them to give a pause and realize that hate speech is hate speech and YES IT DOES HURT PEOPLE!Lincoln died because of it,Kennedy’s and Martin Luther King.Hate is hate and it’s never a good thing no matter who spews it.
