Man Accused Of Brandishing Knives In Concord Police Lobby

CONCORD (AP) -- A 37-year-old man carrying two kitchen knives apparently picked the wrong place to start waving them around.

Concord police say the man walked into the department's lobby Thursday evening looking for his girlfriend, who he thought was in police custody.

Capt. Brian Wiesendanger told the Contra Costa Times that when the man was told that his girlfriend was not being held, he began waving two kitchen knives around.

Weisendanger said when the man refused orders to drop the knives, officers used a Taser stun gun to disarm him.

The man was taken to a local hospital, treated and placed on a mental evaluation hold. His name has not been released.
