Deer Crashes Through Window Into Castro Valley Home

CASTRO VALLEY (KCBS) – Most folks find visitors to the house a pleasure. But a Castro Valley couple believes they've had enough company for a while.

John and Loretta Starkweather had a surprise visitor on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It was a full grown doe, weighing somewhere between 80 and 90 pounds. And she crashed in through the dinette window.

KCBS' Susan Leigh Taylor Reports:

Mr. Starkweather said that after being scared out of the neighbor's yard, the deer apparently escaped into his back yard, and looking for a way out, came right through the glass and across the dinette table. A trip through the family room sent the frightened doe right into the sliding glass door.

"It hit it about eight times, and couldn't break the glass, but it did knock the door off the track on the bottom," said Starkweather.

Trying to avoid any more damage to his home, Mr. Starkweather threw open the front door and ushered the animal out, but not before snapping a picture of the deer in his house. He said that the animal appeared to be uninjured.
